Baby Z – vote #2

Vote now for your chance to win cookies! Winner is the person who has the fewest points!

Please use the same name you used before so you can get your points from the gender poll. If you don’t remember your name, ask me, I have the list!
Gender = 50 points if you were wrong or didn’t guess

Voting will remain open until I get back on the blog after birth. No guarantee that will be in the first couple days, or even week! I can see the time stamp of when you voted, any votes after baby is born will be disqualified.

Some helpful hints:

Birthday (5 points/day off)
Baby is due 11/25. Mommy (R) was born on her due date, with her mom’s water being broken. Uncle & Auntie (R’s younger siblings) were 1-1.5 weeks late. Daddy (J) was 2 weeks late, and was induced.

If genetics play a role, there is a good chance she’ll be late.

Time (1 point/30 min off, divided if needed to determine winner)
Your guess is as good as mine!

Weight (8 point/lb off, .5 points/oz)
I had a growth scan this morning, baby Z was measuring in the 43rd percentile. Meaning she is just about average.

Baby was measuring 6lbs, 4oz as of today. If she gains the standard .5lbs/week, she will be 8lbs, 4oz. Ultrasounds can be off up to 2lbs either way. The technician also said that she has a tendency to measure a little big.

My dr at my last appointment felt baby, his guess is that she would be 7.5-8lbs.

Length (10 points/inch off, 5 points/cm)
The average newborn length is 21 inches.  I can’t tell you anything more.

BONUS: Name (-75 points if you get it right!)
We have 6 names we are considering. They can be selected from the letters:

A A B C D E H I J L M N N O R R Y

Each letter provided can be used up to once in each name.  If a letter is listed twice, that means at least one name contains that letter twice, you do not need to repeat letters!

For example:
The name Sarah contains the letters: AAHRS. If we added Susan to the mix, the letters would be AAHNRSSU.

And because everyone already got this hint (if you read the other post), the name we are most leaning towards contains at least 1 A.

The names are generally Biblical names or family names. Or variants/similar ;).

Good luck!

Pillow letters

This weekend I spent making “pillow letters” to hang on Z’s wall. I am making the letters to make the name we’re 90% set on, but since you all have to guess, I can’t reveal the whole name.

So here’s your clue: the name has a A.

Here’s the process:

What you’ll need:
Cardboard
Scissors
Fabric
Batting
Stencil/cut out
LOW TEMPERATURE hot glue gun
Yarn

I used a variety of fabrics. You can use as many or as few fabrics as you want. The whole name can be one pattern, or you can repeat your favorites. Every letter can be different if you want. My local craft store sells quilting packs that have small bits of 5 coordinating fabrics for $5. I bought one, used 3 of the fabrics and a pink.

Steps:
Get a stencil. I just printed the letters off, one letter per page was the right size for me. Then cut out the letters and trace on to cardboard.

Cut out your letter

20131028-112901.jpg

Using the hot glue gun, glue the front of the letter on to the batting, and cut out.

20131028-113005.jpg

Cut out enough fabric to fully cover the letter, plus some. I found it easiest to cut out a large square, and cut back as needed. Wrapping the fabric around, glue to back of letter. This is where the glue gun being low temp comes in handy, you will probably slip and get glue on your fingers! I was pretty good, but still managed to get a few small burns. The glue is still manageable if you let it cool for a few seconds, just don’t wait too long, you don’t want the back to get too bulky.

Just play with it and try to get the best fit you can. The back does not have to look pretty.

20131028-113530.jpg

*important: if using a fabric that has a pattern, make sure you place the letter so the part of the pattern you like is on the front!

Braid some yarn to make a hanger, glue on to back

And there you have it!

Pregnancy! – week 35

20131021-140024.jpg

How far along? 35 weeks. 3 weeks ago she was the size of a pineapple, today she is the size of a honeydew. Either baby is shrinking, or the people who made these charts have never actually SEEN these fruits!
Maternity clothes? yup
Sleep: having good nights and bad nights.
Best moment this week: Not really sure.
Miss Anything? When you are not pregnant, and have an exhausting day, crawling into bed is the best feeling in the world! When you are pregnant and have an exhausting day, crawling into bed just magnifies how much everything, especially your back and hips, hurts!!! I miss being comfy in bed!
Movement: I took my first pregnant bath on Sunday. The
water was not hot, but baby did NOT like it! She climbed as high as she could when I got in. Just for fun, I turned on my right side, and again she crawled left to get out! I then turned onto my left side just to watch her crawl right. I’m already a terrible mom :-p. I
wonder if I’ll ever be able to clean her, haha.
Food cravings: not really
Anything making you queasy or sick: smelling pizza still gives me heartburn. Other than that, I’m fine.
Have you started to show yet: hahaha
Boy or Girl: girl
Belly Button in or out? in – I don’t think I’m gonna get an outtie 😦
Wedding rings on or off? off
Happy or Moody most of the time: moody
Looking forward to: starting weekly appointments this week. Also looking forward to my church’s women’s retreat! 🙂

Anything Else???? look for baby Z poll #2 coming next Mon! its your chance to win cookies! 😀

I made a bunch of freezer meals this weekend! (Recipes coming later this week). I wrote down all the ingredients from all the recipes, and made a giant shopping list. We got what we could from Costco. Sat morning, I set myself up a nice little corner of my table, I had my list of how each veggie needed to be cut (e.g. – “8 onions, 6.5 chopped, 1 sliced, 0.5 minced”), a garbage bag, and a TV show. I sat and cut veggies for about 5 hours.
20131021-141545.jpg
After I got all the veggies cut, I cut up the meats, then assembled all the ingredients, storage bags, and freezer pans that I need.

20131021-141727.jpg
I started by making all of the easy ones first, all of the slow cooker recipes are just “throw everything in a bag and freeze”. I made sure to label each bag with the recipe and cooking instructions.

On Sunday, I made a few of the recipes that required some cooking.

Here’s my freezer now, I still need to make about 5 more dishes.

Pregnancy! – week 32

20131001-212354.jpg

How far along? 32 weeks
Maternity clothes? yup
Sleep: had my first “rough night” due to pregnancy on Sunday. Only slept about 2 hours :(. Luckily I was able to come home from work early on Monday and take a 5-hour nap!
Best moment this week: going to a friend’s wedding. It was a good wedding, and I got to dance with J. It was nice.
Miss Anything? my feet! I haven’t seen my toe knuckles in over a week…then again, I haven’t seen my feet in a few days either :-p
Movement: lots! The other night, I was sitting on my couch, chatting with my aunt on FB on my phone. I felt a weird side-ways movement, then my hand/phone popped about 2″ off my belly!!! I’m pretty sure Zelda round-house-kicked my phone!
Food cravings: not really
Anything making you queasy or sick: food, laying down, life…
Have you started to show yet: hahaha
Boy or Girl: girl
Belly Button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off? I got my wedding rings on for the wedding last weekend. That was a bad idea! As soon as I got the rings on, my finger instantly swelled and turned purple! I tried to get them off for about 20 min, with no luck. I tried soap, cold water, ice water, oil, nothing! It scared me so much, I almost went to the hospital to get them cut off! We decided it wasn’t cutting off circulation, so we went to the wedding hoping it would settle down. After a couple hours, it did, however I still couldn’t get the rings off. A friend suggested elevating my hand, so on my way home, I rode in the car with my hand above my head for 30 min, praying furiously (my hands tend to swell more at night, and I didn’t want to go to bed with the rings on). Once I got home, I used some if the now-melted ice water/oil mixture that was still in a bowl in the bathroom. The combination of elevating my hand, prayer, cold water, and oil worked! I finally got my rings off. I still have a bruise on the side of my finger from how tight they were. Needless to say, they are back in the safety deposit box until a much later time!
Happy or Moody most of the time: moody
Looking forward to: easy week

Anything Else????
My friend S came over and we baked cookies! (look for the next voting poll coming up at 36 weeks for a chance to win some!) We made the dough, and froze it into cookie-sized balls, so the cookies can be fresh baked any time! Of course we had to bake same trial ones to make sure they were good ;). Here are some pictures:

All the ingredients ready for the making!
